TikTok Shop expands in the US and Europe, offers global e-commerce services
With the rapid rise of short video e-commerce, TikTok Shop is accelerating its global expansion, targeting developed e-commerce markets such as Europe and America.
TikTok Shop plans to add eight new sites in Australia, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Canada, Japan, and South Korea by 2024 to further expand its e-commerce business.
With its large international user base, TikTok Shop is gradually extending its e-commerce reach to major global markets. Currently, TikTok Shop has entered several countries in Southeast Asia, the UK, and the US markets, and its global GMV reached $13.8 billion in 2023, showing strong growth momentum.
Especially in Southeast Asia, the total GMV of countries like Indonesia and Thailand reached $11.86 billion.
Store suspension issues and analysis of reasons
However, some US sellers have reported that their stores have been suspended shortly after entering TikTok Shop. The issue of easy store suspension has brought many troubles to sellers. The following are several common reasons for suspension:
- Store information is not compliant:Some sellers use forged information to register local stores, which can be easily detected by the platform.
- Product issues:The seller launched counterfeit or imitation products, and was directly banned after the platform's inspection.
- Shop inactivity: Failing to upload new products, publish corresponding videos, etc., may be considered as an idle shop.
- Bulk registration: The platform is cracking down on behaviors such as bulk registration, buying, and selling shops, which is also a common reason for bans.
TikTok has detailed requirements for standardized business operation at every stage, from qualification verification to post-operation monitoring, all aiming to filter out non-compliant behaviors. False registration and simulated operations have a hard time passing through multiple levels of monitoring, proving the strictness of the platform's regulations.
Industry insiders point out that this is closely related to TikTok's global development strategy. In order to venture into the developed markets of Europe and America, TikTok must establish an image of a trustworthy platform, strengthen standardized business operations, and align with international standards. This also affects the global perception of 'Made in China'. Hence, the platform's stance on violations will become even tougher.
Compliance with standards and integrity in business
For sellers, it is more important to comply with regulations in the new environment. They should not use fraudulent delivery methods, nor engage in fraud in registration qualifications or product selection. Integrity is the business principle that every seller must remember. Only by operating legally and in compliance can they establish a long-term presence on the platform.
